Milan @ Riverview

This is the Game of the Week in the Huron League. Milan (1-1) is coming off of a 55-6 victory over Flat Rock while Riverview (1-1) fell to SMCC 14-12. Riverview won last season’s game 21-7 and leads the all time series 9-7.

Milan is fully healthy now with the return of junior RB Trace Lindeman. He along with junior QB Demetrius Barnes give the Big Reds an extremely potent offense. The Big Red defense is led by senior LB Cortez Gray.

Riverview was plagued by turnovers last week. Look for the Pirates to try and run the ball as much as possible in an effort to shorten the game. The Riverview defense is led by senior LB Tyler Chase.

This should be a great game. A healthy high powered spread offense by Milan against a very physical Pirate defense. This game may come down to Riverview’s ability to score points off of Milan’s turnovers. I think Milan’s overall team speed will be the difference. Pick: Milan 20 Riverview 19

  1. I really want to go to the game tonight….not really wanting to sit in the (possible) rain… I have been keeping an eye on the Radar, and it looks like alot of it has already started to disipate….if this trend keeps up I will be there for sure. This will be a true measure on how good Milan will be, as it seems Riverview has a pretty good defense, Milan like always has speed all over the place, and a good defense as well.

My key players are Barnes, Gray and Lindeman, no disrepect to the rest of the guys…its a team, I am just saying if these 3 particular guys perform like they can, it will be a tough game for Riverview, those 3 are really that good!

Barnes' determination to make the right play everysingle down..
Gray's ability to be a GREAT 2 way player in RB and LB and his toughness is 2nd to none..
Lindeman's agility/toughness to run both between and off tackle, and his track speed is outstanding..

Yes, I know, I'm might be being a bit of a homer, but I have watched Milan football for over 25 years and I say again if these 3 guys are on….WATCH OUT!

  2. That would be a huge development in this game. It just shows you how things can change from week to week in HS football. Riverview will have to rally around their sidelined teammate with a full team effort.

  3. To start off, riverview will win 21-14. Also last week at CC that was the only time I have truly seen riverview beat themselves because they have NO QB. once either one of those guys figures it out they will not lose again. Their defense is outstanding. They should've beaten CC but their offense was very slow and turnover after turnover didn't help to much. They need to develop speed in the backfield,. Someone teach #5 how to run up field. A strong point is their WR, great speed with great hands. many tweaks to their team but if they fix it, they have a shot at huron.

  4. Riverview's defense vs. Milan's offense is the matchup to see here. For the poster that is basing their opinion on last year's Milan team, we've already seen in two weeks of the season that teams change from one year to the next. Milan is just one example of a team that is changing–hopefully improving–from week to week.

I think Lindeman is going to start this game on fire, perhaps channeling his performance from his last trip to the 'View (22 carries, 194 yards, 2 TDs). He's only had two carries this season and is really hungry to carry a large workload this season. His teammates need to do their parts as well, of course. If Riverview has to sell out to stop Lindeman, that should open up opportunities for Barnes and other Big Reds to get involved.

Riverview needs to take a page from Marshall's playbook to contend: run the ball, keep the ball off the turf, and eat up clock. They seem to have the type of team that can do just that. Weather may be a factor as well, if the teams are playing on a muddy track. This figures to be a very entertaining game tomorrow night.

  5. I was at SMCC game also. Seems to me that Riverview was driving to win the game in the final moments and had a dropped pass. Could have been 18-12 Riverview. No case there. Sorry. Coulda, woulda , shoulda. Whatever.

I was unaware we were being graded on grammar. Ya gots ta half a bedder reeson then that.

With that BS out of the way. Speed kills.

    Milan 28- Riverview 14

  6. I watched Riverview last week. Don't see them losing to Milan. Not sold on Milan from what I seen last year and throw in a pretty bad jv team.

    1. You can't base that off of JV. Sorry. Milan will come to play and I hope Riverview over looks the Big Reds. I watched the film on them against SMCC and they let one slip away just like Milan did with Marshall. It will be a great game but I think Milan has too much speed. Good luck.

    2. I was at the SMCC – Riverview game and Riverview did not let anything slip away. They didn't have enough pass defense to stop SMCC from scoring an easy TD to a tight end. SMCC would have had another easy TD if not for a wide open dropped pass and possibly a third if not for a dropped pass. SMCC could have won that game 28-12.
