  1. Yes CYO is down. A few years back there were 4 teams at each level. Now there are
2 at the upper level and 3 at the lower level, which includes 4th graders now. It did not include 4th graders a few years back and still had 4 teams. The CYO league of Monroe county has dissolved and they have joined Toledo CYO league. This is football only at this point.

It is a shame, my kids played CYO and it was a great league. With injuries and all the concussion scare, numbers are down. I'm sure its not just here, probably across the board.

With that being said, kids, especially in high school aren't going to put their bodies through that unless there is some winning going on. Much respect to the kids that do play, even if program is losing.

  2. 8:06, when you say "many kids in our area teetering on playing football at all anymore" it surprises me. Any idea if the CYO youth football participation numbers are down lately?

  3. SMCC 3-6. 3-4 in the league. There are some damn good teams in the league this year and they are on a down season.

  4. Keep an eye on Jefferson this year. They have some great weapons. Sovey and Humphrey will produce a lot of TD's this year, hopefully they will prove to be good enough to be discussed on this blog, regardless of team record or anything else.

Good players should be given kudos no matter what school or record.

    Good Luck Huron League.

    Go Bears !!!

  5. Not sure what SMCC was thinking, scheduling PW and LCC on a down year. Numbers already down. (355) school enrollment. Football is a tough sport to be motivated for when you get your ass kicked. PW scrimmaged Ithaca last week and actually beat them. Some years you got to take it easy, even at SMCC. I know many, many kids in our area teetering on playing football at all anymore, ugly games won't help that decision.

  6. You guys have no idea how much you're sleeping on Grosse Ile. 4-5 last year with some fluke losses, especially that Riverview game. Let's not forget that they only lost two players so they're returning 11 players on each side of the ball with experience and skill. They have a QB who has unreal potential to terrorize the league this year in Josh Sheppard. From what I saw in the 4-way scrimmage QB Sheppard and WR Moores have a connection like no other. Watch out. Beware of the sleeping giant. #GoDevils 🔥

    1. I'm positive they lost more than "two players" last year…

Don't sleep on anyone in HL week 1 will tell us a lot about the year to come but not everything… The blog lives

Thanks Chris for keeping it going

  7. I think i said i hope we do?? my point was i was in the same position the last 2 years. Its awesome to have senior leaders and makes great young men which is more important that wins in loses in the long run. I think that Jefferson has the potential to surprise teams and i think it would be great if they do

  8. The senior & junior class at Jefferson have always had the chemistry to get the job done.Great leaders with the seniors & no doubt the juniors will step it up where needed.Jefferson will surprise a few people.

    1. What would you like him to say? "We won't surprise anyone?" And having good senior leadership every year isn't a bad thing

  9. What you are going to find with Summit and their new coach is a handful of transfers from Robichaud. This guy can coach too. He has a track record and has made the playoffs. No offense to anyone, but Summit had a Little League coaching staff last year. They will also have an impact freshman or two. Trust me, FR may win, but Summit will be much improved. I Guarantee it.

  10. Ya i agree 100%. But in a year where it seems almost all the teams have question marks i just thought he would be talked about more. I know they will rely on Joey Flaherty on the line a ton. If they can get 1 or 2 pieces to the line worked out we will see. they have had the skill players in the past just can get good Chemistry!! Hope they get it figured it would be nice to see!! Coach Pick has taken his lumps and deserves better

  11. I would say Humphrey is *a* top player, but team issues might prevent him from being discusses as *the* top player. These are not shots fired–it's also the knock on Milan this year. The supporting cast has to do their part. Other skill position players need to be a threat to the defense and blockers need to block because 1 on 11 is a tough way to play the game.

  12. Ida has built a nice program!! Jeff will prob take there lumps hopefully bounce back for 1st league game. Wondering why nobody really has Humphrey as top player in the league?? I understand the line issues, but was just curious!!

  13. If I was from flat rock I would consider that a slap in the face. Summit academy is horrid. But I do think you have my jets score right. Might put up more then 20 on Oestrikes D though. Go Jets!!

    1. My son plays for Flat Rock. What I reminded him of is the fact that respect is never given, but is instead earned. If he and his teammates want to be respected by other schools, players coaches, etc… earn their respect, and don't get caught up in predictions. As a parent, I enjoy the information mixed in with speculation… I find it very entertaining. Also, and to Chris' point, he picked them to win. Summit deserves the benefit of the doubt, just like I ask everyone to reserve judgement on Flat Rock, until they start playing games.

  14. I think Ida has almost everyone back from last year and you add Redmond as OC. I think they beat Jefferson by more.

  15. Wishing all the Huron league teams the best of luck Thursday and Friday night. Hopefully the league goes undefeated in week 1.
